INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOUSE

It's an old mountain house surrounded by fir trees, beeches and chestnuts at 940 metres above sea level. It is Property of Scout Association. It is ideal for quartering, meetings and holidays for organized groups who wish to live the "Scout spirit". It is about 4 kilometres from Gavinana and San Marcello. Good roads link it to these villages. The building overlooks the green Verdiana River Valley: an unspoilt area in the Tuscany Apennines, home to a variety of wildlife. From here you can see beautiful mountain peaks (all about 1.800 metres high).

DESCRIPTION OF THE BUILDING

Since 1975 the house has been gradually restored and equipped by AGESCI (the Scout Association of Pistoia) and the ComunitĂ  Montana. Now it offers 40 beds (bunk beds) arranged in four bedrooms (8+6+6+20); a kitchen equipped with community cooker, fridge and freezer; a room with a traditional oven and fireplace. There are eight toilets, a washroom with nine showers, fifteen washbasins indoor, and several others outdoor for summer use. The house is heated by a heating central facility and by two fireplaces. The kitchen, the toilets and the showers have also running hot water provided by the heating facility. Every room is supplied with electric power. There are several small and large rooms for games, activities and meetings in case of bad weather. The old stable has been turned into a chapel. The house is surrounded by meadows and woodland that can be explored safely. There are no roads across the estate. The building is far from other houses. You can light fires in marked places outside where you can spend pleasant evenings. You can visit the astronomic observatory of San Marcello at ten minutes walk.

SURROUNDING AREA

From La Spianessa you can set off for several short and long excursions. For this reason it can be used as halting place for walking holidays or trekking. You can reach lovely spots in the Pistoia Mountains leaving Gavinana by bus.
